Camp Buehring, Kuwait - Alaska Governor Sarah ...Image via Wikipedia

You know, for as politically inconsequential as our betters in media tell us Sarah Palin is, I can’t help but notice how much coverage she generates.

It reminds me why I always correct those who describe me as a “citizen journalist”. I don’t consider myself a journalist, never have, and this post illustrates the distinction very well.

When mainstream media declares someone to be inconsequential, they write over 4,600 stories about them.

When I consider someone to be inconsequential, I don’t write any at all.

“Thousands Cheer Palin”

I don’t believe Kate has ever written about the Toronto Maple Leafs……..hmmmmm…….

Some interesting parallels (well maybe not parallels because Obama hasn’t done a lot of this stuff - yet) : American Thinker: Obama and Trudeau

Trudeau nationalized 25% of the petroleum industry and ruined the nascent boom economy of conservative Alberta. He ensured minority group representation at every level of government and instituted French language requirements in remote English-speaking corners of the country. He turned away from the United States and toward a “third way”, vowing to make Canada more European, from imposition of the metric system to implementation of universal “free” health care. Though elected by civil libertarians and the pacifist left, he snarled “watch me” when asked how far he would go to deny civil liberties after FLQ terrorists kidnapped two men and killed one of them. He introduced landmark legislation decriminalizing homosexual acts, contraception and abortion, while enacting significant gun ownership restrictions. And he enormously expanded the scope of Canada’s federal government, all the while resisting free trade with the United States and encouraging links with Cuba.

Not mentioned: how Trudeau absolutely decimated the Canadian military. Somehow I don’t think Obama could get away with that.

Update: and I don’t think decriminalizing homosexual acts and contraception was a bad thing.

Via Instapundit this is a pretty awesome column by former Drudge employee and now internet news mogul in his own right Andrew Breitbart

Remember this video: It is a instructive relic of the era of celebrity decadence and boutique anti-Republican activism under President Bush. It is a sickening display that they want fast and easy absolution for having comported themselves like ill-behaved children for eight difficult and war-torn years.

Good luck, President Obama. The rest of you can go to hell.

Rex Murphy has penned a witty and insightful column about the Democratic nominee for President of the US. Well worth reading but refrain from diving into the 199 comments that accompany the article the sensation is similar to one of having eaten and exquisite meal only to be offered stale Twinkies for dessert.

Gee for a guy who played an international spy (or something) Matt Damon sure doesn’t know much about Russia:

“She’s facing down Vladimir Putin… using the folksy stuff she learned at the hockey rink…

Matt: Hockey is kinda huge in Russia, here’s a quote from Putin himself:
ice hockey [..] “is important not only for the Russian hockey fans, but for the whole country.”

UPDATE: WWTDD gets to the point as only he can - Here Matt Damon says he is scared of Sarah Palin because she’s too inexperienced. I’m not good with numbers, but Palin is a one term governor. Obama is a one term senator. That’s the same, right? One equals one right?

Quick Morning Hit

High winds knocked out power here this morning (it just returned). So no big post today.

I did catch Kathy and Mike on the Michael Coren show last night. It was all very civil and what was surprising was the whole panel agreed that the complaints against Ezra and Mark were contrary to the intent of the HRC’s.

Mike - has gained some weight! Last time I saw him I was teasing him that he looked like a meth addict. Maybe the camera adds 30lbs? Either that or he has been hitting the gym. Although I would recommend a suit or sport coat for future TV appearances. And stop folding your arms it makes you look too defensive.

Kathy looked great and was remarkably restrained. But then again the show did have an exceedingly polite tone to it.

Most impressive was the woman from the Canadian Free Speech or Civil Rights (I forget the name of the organization as I have her name). She was obviously a left winger but her arguments against using the HRC to police speech and thought were as “cogent” (get it? ha ha) and well articulated as any I have heard from the right.

The lawyer guy made completely spurious arguments and examples and didn’t do anything to disprove Kathy’s contention that lawyers are a major part of the problem here.

Unlike some commenter in Mike’s blog I didn’t have to run out an buy a TIVO to get the show. I PVR’d it on my hd box and watched it after the Leafs game. Considering what passes for hockey these days in leaf land it was a pretty decent palate cleanser.

Update: Welcome Five Feet of Fury folks. For the record Kathy I wasn’t lying - but I am not going to sue you for suggesting I was :)

Babalu Blog has an excerpt of an article writtent by an African leftist who has rejected Fidel’s paradise:

you might ask why anyone would want to visit an island that quarantines people with HIV/AIDS, treats its gay and lesbian citizens like criminals, and dishes out passports the same way a parent gives out candy to an obedient child — be nice and you will be handsomely rewarded with a pack of sweets.

You might ask. But the answer is readily apparent.

Remember when GWB was running for election in 2000 and someone asked him who the leader was of some foreign country and Bush didn’t know? Everyone went crazy and the general consensus from the left that Bush was a stupid idiot was born. After all if you are an educated person you would know who the leader of every shithole country is right?

I don’t read his cartoons much but I would assume that Ted Rall is one of those people who ascribes to the “Bush is an idiot” line of thinking.

So it was a great surprise to see his latest cartoon implying that Condi Rice is sleeping with foreign leaders around the world. In it Rall makes the following statement “she’s romantically linked to three prime ministers including most recently Peter McKay of Canada”

Which as we all know is complete rubbish - MacKay is the Foreign Affairs Minister

So if Bush was an idiot way back because he didn’t know the leader of Bigturdistan. What does it make Rall who doesn’t even know the PM of one of the worlds largest economies, the US’ biggest trading partner and the country that all American lefties keep threatening to move to if the Republicans win just one more election?

My guess would be triple double super duper idiot.

Looser: A Believer in the conspiracy theory documentary Loose Change

The conspiracy theories around the alleged cover up of “what really happened” on 9/11 have been gaining considerable traction lately. The current focus of attention is a documentary of sorts made by two fellows entitled “Loose Change”. The documentary has become so popular that apparently it is now the unofficial first Internet Blockbuster - at least that’s what the woman on Democracy Now! said. Although to be fair she probably hasn’t seen a single bukkake film so let’s call it the first non-porn Internet blockbuster.

Popular Mechanics
has spent considerable time debunking the conspiracy theorists and have just recently released a book on the subject.

The authors recently went head to head with the makers of Loose Change on Democracy now and you can watch the video here.

Additionally there is a blog devoted to debunking Loose Change called Screw Loose Change which has some additional links to debunking the conspiracy theorists.

I wondered why there was a surge in Google hits for Rona Ambrose today. The Harper govt has been sworn in and she as been made Minister of The Environment

Fans of this site will no doubt remember that Rona transformed her self quite dramatically whilst in opposition.

Just to refresh your memory here is the proof:

My original post is here.

Hey how come Helena Guergis doesn’t get a cabinet post? Or Diane Ablonczy? And while I am at it Jason Kenney doesn’t get a cabinet post and some Liberal who crosses the floor does?? A quick check of the parliment of Canada website shows the Liberals had 35 ministers and the list of Conservative minister is 10 fewer so mayber there are some others to be named? Or maybe I am missing some?

Update: Kenney has been named Parliamentary Secretary to the PM (I have no idea what that job is, or if it is important or just some fancy title for a nothing job) Thanks to BBS for pointing this out.

Is Rove Planning a Terror Attack on the Super Bowl?

If Rove wants a war with Iran, he will have to manufacture it, because Iran (like Iraq in 2002) is not trying to provoke a war.

And how better to manufacture a war than to manufacture a terrorist attack on the Super Bowl right while the whole world is watching - and blame it on Iran?

Of course, Rove will have to be very creative this time, beyond even painting a U.S. plane in the colors of the U.N. (Perhaps a “Canadian” submarine will float up the Detroit River? Watch it live!) The FBI is prepared for just about anything - Special Agent William Kowalski says “there are no credible threats against the Super Bowl” - and does not want to be humiliated yet again. Rove’s plan would have to be so evil as to justify yet one more farcical White House claim that “no one could possibly have imagined” such a horrendous thing.

Karl Rove, is there anything he can’t do? He probably drew those cartoons and planted them in a Danish paper too.

Canada is Noticed

The Belmont Club actually has a post up about the Canadian election.

In a certain mental universe the poll victory of Stephen Harper is not one particular outcome in a long series of elections, a process in which sometimes you lose, sometimes you win. It’s the northern equivalent of the US Presidential election of 2000. Those who think along those lines do not simply want to win the next election but demonize the enemy and smash them; just as some want to end the reign of Halliburton and BushChimpHitler and establish a progressive hegemony forever.

The process that [Steve] Janke observed starting in Canada is already far along with the Kos-ification of the Democratic Party and the culture wars which show no sign of abating, only increasing in virulence. Though things may begin innocently enough with a declaration of war on BushChimpHitler the process of confrontation and radicalization inevitably leads to a rejection of the very idea of compromise, civility and respect which really underpins the democratic process. Politics becomes an arms race to see who can find the most extremist position. Nor is the phenomenon confined solely to the Left. It has been observed that opponents in the end come to resemble each other and conservatives also start to take intransigent positions.

Four I wont miss. Please retire from politics forever:

From left (for those unfamiliar with Canadian politics): Anne “landslide” Mclellan, Svend “been caught stealing” Robinson, Pierre Pettigrew (worst hair I have ever seen), Tony “re-max” Valeri.

Good riddance.

There are two contests happening tonight involving red and blue teams. The Liberals (red) vs the Conservatives (blue) and the Senators (red) vs the Leafs (blue).

One thing appears reasonably certain. The Blue team led by Harper is heading towards victory (although nothing is set in stone). The blue team led by Quinn is not in such a strong position.

If both trends continue, we know that Paul Martin is probably out of a job. So is Quinn also looking at the same prospect?

Some people are hoping for that.

Carolyn Parrish doesn’t like the Liberal campaign one bit:

Outgoing Independent MP Carolyn Parrish, who is not running for re-election in Mississauga-Erindale, Ont., and who was kicked out ofthe Liberal caucus in the last Parliament, said she expects the Liberals to be reduced to Official Opposition status because of “an extremely weak, unfocused campaign which resorted to bullying, wild promises and policy made on the fly took the Keystone Kops techniques of the 2004 campaign to an even greater low. Rank amateurism.”

Well I guess Martin could have stomped on a Bush doll. That would have looked professional.
